The Carb Rotation Diet was created by Jason Hunter, a registered dietitian. As soon as I began going over the information, I knew this guy wasn’t playing around. He really knows his stuff and the books are dense with nutritional information. You are not only getting a diet plan, you’re getting a full education about how to get fit and stay healthy and fit for life.
The main weight loss method for this weekly diet meal plan is called calorie cycling. Basically for 30 days you will be shifting the amount of carbs, protein and fats that you eat for a cycle of three days. Then you keep repeating the same cycle of eating until you reach your goal weight at the end of that time period.
You will shift between a high carb, low carb and no carb daily eating menu. Even though the plan focuses on helping you to shed pounds relatively quickly, you will not be starving yourself to get there. In fact, Jason argues against the starvation method. This is counter-productive to you losing the pounds. You must eat in order for your body to have calories to burn.
Now you are supposed to be able to calculate your starting body weight using a mathematical formulation that involves measuring your body fat, height, weight, etc. Unfortunately, math isn’t my strong point, so I just glazed over this section. It would be nice to have an easy way to calculate this information – just plug in the numbers and go. I’ll mention that this plan does come with a bonus body fat calculator, but you still have to do the measurements on your own – and you need MS Excel (or the Open Office equivalent) to open it.
What I do like a lot about this diet is that it does show you in detail the foods you should eat in each category: Proteins, Fats, Carbohydrates. There’s an Appendix that lists lots of foods that you can eat and what serving size is appropriate. This is great if you need guidance on what kinds of foods to eat. By the way, an optional meal plan guide is available if you want to take the guesswork out of daily menu preparation (highly recommended).
Each plan comes with several bonuses. They are different for men and women. Both will find the bonuses featuring exercise routines with pictures very useful. Even if you hate to exercise, you’ll find some of these routines easy and even fun. I do think the bonuses for men are a wee bit better because of the motivational material.
All in all, this is a great, no nonsense diet plan for both men and women looking to lose 10 to 25 pounds in 30 to 60 days.
